Texas Regulators Urge Rule to Improve Coordination between DOD Wind Energy Developers

first_imgWind farm developers in Texas would be required to notify the Defense Department of their plans before connecting to the state’s electricity grid, under a legislative proposal the operator of the state grid wants lawmakers to consider. An official with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) proposed the rule change to the Texas House Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee during a hearing last week in Wichita Falls. Sheppard Air Force Base leaders have said two wind farm projects in north central Texas could threaten the installation’s pilot training mission by interfering with the base’s radar systems and limiting the number of days pilots could train.Warren Lasher, ERCOT’s director of planning, wants to see “increased coordination and communication” between DOD and wind energy developers to resolve the dispute over the projects near Sheppard and other similar conflicts. The rule he proposed would require developers to submit an affidavit to ERCOT stating they have informed DOD of their intention to build an energy project before connecting to the state power grid, reported the Times Record News.“This will ensure that all energy developers check with DOD well before” any large-scale energy developments are put into motion, Lasher testified.Energy projects with the potential to interfere with military operations already are subject to review by the DOD Siting Clearinghouse, but an ERCOT spokeswoman said the rule change would further enhance coordination between the parties.“I understand there already are rules in place to have this review by the DOD, but this additional requirement in our planning process would establish a time frame in the process,” said Robbie Searcy. The proposed rule is supported by the office of Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. Dan Cohen AUTHORlast_img read more

The Good Fight star Nyambi Nyambi uses Headspace app to let it

first_img1:40 Nyambi Nyambi plays investigator Jay DiPersia on The Good Fight. Justin Stephens/CBS How we operate on social media can tell people a lot about us — and can be great fodder for drama.Nyambi Nyambi, who plays investigator Jay DiPersia in the legal and political drama The Good Fight, said that technology plays a huge part in his character’s work.”People put so much information about themselves and the community around them online that the digital imprint left behind can be clues into who they are at different moments in a day,” he said. “It seems like we are in a time where people are openly being transparent about their lives, but even if they are not, there’s a digital profile that will tell their story.”As a follow-up to the hit show The Good Wife, The Good Fight joined CBS All Access’ lineup in 2017. Its third season premieres Thursday. (Editors’ note: CBS is CNET’s parent company.)Nyambi, who describes DiPersia as a “moral compass,”  told CNET what to expect from season 3 of The Good Fight — and also shared a few of his favorite apps.”Fans can expect an explosive exploration into race, politics, gender equality, love, betrayal and more,” Nyambi said. “What I love about our show are the immense chances our writers take and how they push us actors to explore the deeper issues that plague our humanity and are incredibly relevant today.”Nyambi said he leaves online investigation to DiPersia, though. While he likes to use Google’s search engine, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and IMDb, he doesn’t dive too far into another person’s online presence unless it’s for a script.”Generally, I prefer knowing as little as possible so when it comes time for a face-to-face conversation, I’m pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised by what I learn and hopefully come away with a deeper experience,” Nyambi said. “Jay is the opposite. He will go in and know everything he can. Information is power. Jay shares what you need to know, not necessarily what you want to know.”Here’s more of our conversation:Q: What’s the one app that you use the most? Why?Nyambi: The one app I use the most is Headspace. I meditate daily to acknowledge the crazy and let it go.What’s the last app you downloaded? Why?The last app I downloaded was Filmic Pro. I just took a workshop on how to make documentaries and the class has got me excited to maximize the capabilities of my phone to tell cinematic stories. When you wake up in the morning, what are the first apps you look at? Why?The first apps I look at when I wake up in the morning depends on the alerts awaiting me overnight. It ranges from ESPN to The New York Times. When there are no alerts, emails or texts to open, the first app I’m on is Lumosity, playing brain games. If you could invent your own app, what would it do?If I could invent my own app, it would be something that not only allowed for digital readers to consume their favorite comics, but one that bridges the gap between that and their local community by incentivizing and encouraging these readers to connect with, regularly visit and support their local comic book store(s).If there was an app that could save civilization, what would it be?If there was an app that could save civilization, it would be Headspace because we simply don’t take the time to breathe deep and empathize. Are you an Android or Apple user? Why?I actually own both an Android and an Apple phone. Watch the first Westworld season 3 trailer now

first_imgNote: This piece was originally published at May 19, 6:04 p.m. PT and has been updated with new info and thoughts. 0 Post a comment Westworld season 3 trailer debuts Share your voice Now playing: Watch this: 24 Photos TV and Moviescenter_img Comic-Con: I got to visit Westworld and I’m still reeling 1:31 Tags HBO’s Westworld will return with Aaron Paul, Tessa Thompson and Lena Waithe, and tbh who hasn’t wished for that threesome?!? (I choose to believe I manifested this and helped make it happen, because based on rumors no one was expecting a trailer this early.)In the new Westworld trailer, released Sunday just before the Game of Thrones finale aired, Paul walks along a futuristic bridge as Brain Damage by Pink Floyd plays. “Sometimes it seems like the world looks all right, like they put a coat of paint on it,” he says in a voiceover, “but inside it’s rotting to pieces.Read more: In HBO’s Westworld Awakening VR game you play a host stalked by a serial killerAt the end of season two, incase you forgot, we left Dolores (well, potentially multiple Doloreses in multiple bodies) just as she’d entered the “real world” outside of Westworld with a bag full of host “brains” and the will to build an army. HBO He sits atop a construction building/bridge with a robot — at least one we all now would recognize as a robot, not a “Westworld robot.”We see Paul in his everyday life (in which, to be clear, he seems like a not nice guy slash a criminal) as he scrolls through a bounty list of crimes such as robbery, smash and grab, grand theft auto and more, all of which have dollar signs next to them. After some light B&E, being threatened with a gun, and a glimpse of Dolores shooting two men on the ground, we see Paul encounter Evan Rachel Wood. We assume it’s Dolores, wandering in a tunnel, apparently hurt and wearing another version of her black dress, but still looking like she’s ready to kill (and remember all the times forever). HBO The trailer also gives us glimpses of a super tech-savvy world, with what appear to be self-driving cars and more. Plus we get to see season 3 cast members Scott Mescudi and Marshawn Lynch.westworld-s3This heli-plane-car thing is just one of the handful of technologically advanced transport vehicles we see in the season 3 trailer. HBO Season 3 of Westworld won’t return until 2020, and this trailer (even devoid of Thompson) makes me wish that was sooooo much closer. Game of Thrones HBO Westworldlast_img read more
